envision is delighted to announce that the programme will now also be supporting Milton Keynes Gallery as part of the South East cluster.
They will be collaborating with partners, young people and other venues to share ideas, expertise and resources to give young people a genuine role in shaping their gallery policy and practice.

To kick-start the current round of envision research and development projects in the South East and South West we recently held a 2-day planning workshop facilitated by Francois Matarasso. The workshop helped the selected project teams clarify their aims, and plan their research / evaluation. It also proved to be a great opportunity for all the projects to meet up to share and discuss issues and ways of working with young people.

envision received the great news that the Department for Communities and Local Government have confirmed their continued support for the programme and given us a funding uplift for the forthcoming financial year. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank Yorkshire Building Society for their financial support for the forthcoming envision projects in Yorkshire.

The Hampshire Museums Trust has just begun a project working with young people aged 14-24. We are visiting existing groups (young parents, connexions youth forum, Princes Trust for example) as well as hoping to form our own.
We would like to discuss with young adults what they would like to see in museums, libraries, discovery centres, galleries. These discussions will incorporate ideas about content as well as presentation.
We have had some feedback from some young people already and the project is really starting to take off. We are doing some work with a couple of classes as well but I understand that you were interested mostly in young people not in education.
The project is starting in Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport but we are hoping that it will move into a year two so we can extend it to include more of the county.
The second part of the project is to use a group or two (one we have made or existing) in each area and put together one of their ideas. This is quite open and could be an exhibition, an event, a series of lectures, etc. etc. etc.
If anyone would like more information about the project or how to get their group involved please contact
Emily Hudson or Louise Rickwood.

Funding
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the following support to continue our work over the next
2 years:
- A two year grant from Arts Council England to expand the envision programme focusing on 16 venues in the South West, South East, East and Yorkshire regions, targeting vulnerable and disadvantaged young people.
-
A grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to pilot a new Youth Friendly Arts Venue Award scheme.
The scheme will be developed in collaboration with partner youth and education organisations and a group of young people from recent envision projects. The award will aim not only to champion, recognise and share good practice, but to also celebrate achievements through a live showcase of young people’s creative work.
Alternative Education
Over the next year one of envision’s priorities is supporting Gallery’s work with alternative education providers.
For a variety of reasons some young people find themselves excluded from the mainstream school system. These pupils will be referred to some form of alternative education, many attending a local Pupil Referral Unit or PRU or the school’s own Learning Support Unit or LSU.
In recent years arts practice has begun to be recognised for it’s unique value and contribution to reengaging excluded pupils with learning.
envision is keen to share this work and within this site you will find case studies, reports, and links to information specifically about this area of work.
